Caller Mike Miller

Mike Miller has been calling contra, square and ceilidh dances around the United States, Canada and beyond for the past 35 years. As an expatriate American living in Hong Kong before the handover to China, he became steeped in the barn dance traditions of Britain and Ireland thanks to the many denizens of those isles who were also there at the time. He currently lives in Elkins, West Virginia.

The Mud Larks

The Mud Larks sound features the soul stirring, intertwining drones and sympathetic strings of the hurdy gurdy and nyckelharpa and the pulsing Irish traditional music of flute, bouzouki and violins. We provide a powerful wall of sound that can hammer you with its density or swallow you whole with its depth and space. Their music offers a combination of mixed time signatures, traditional Celtic tunes, original hurdy gurdy and nyckelharpa compositions, and howling arrangements to incite despair, joy, and celebration. Its members are Ryan Kurczak (hurdy gurdy, bouzouki), Claire Sweeney (nyckelharpa, fiddle), Cal Stroud (flute, whistle) and Val Mindel (fiddle). Teaching and calling by Mike Miller.
